Kullu Mountains
The Lahual Plateau nourished by the Chandra and Bhaga rivers and the Spiti Valley linked to it a high pass the Kunzam-la, are together a district in Himachal Pradesh- another region where nature can be seen at its wildest. Lahaul is glacier country and some of its most dramatic glaciers include the Bara, Shigri, Chota Sigri, Samundari and Sonapani glaciers. The narrow Spiti valley carved out by the swift flowing Spiti River rising from the slopes of the Kunzam-la is an area of weathered gorges and dramatic mountain escapes. In summer the valleys are green, the meadows carpeted with flowers and a path work of fields ornament the villages. Manali with its forested slopes and beautiful scenery is the start of an arduous journey across some of the most fascinating landscapes in the country. The Rothang Pass 3978 metres (13,050 ft) is not far from Manali and takes one abruptly from the lush meadows of the Kullu valley into the barer hills and rocky landscapes of Lahaul. At Gramphu the road from Spiti coming over the Kunzam Pass meets the highway. Just 18 kms from Keylong, the subdivisional headquarters, an imposing 7 storeyed structure, the fort of Gonda seems to guard the road.

Day 1: Delhi to Manali
At the northern end of the Kullu Valley, is the main resort in the area. It's beautifully situated and there are many pleasant walks around the town, as well as a large numbers hotels and restaurants.

Day 2: Manali Local sightseeing
Hadimba Temple: The temple of the goddess Hadimba, who plays such a major part in Kullu's annual festival, is a sombre wooden structure in a clearing in the dense forest.

Old Manali Village:
The current town of Manali is actually a new creation that has superseded the old village, a couple of km from away. Follow the road across the cascading Manalsu stream, from where you can climb up to this interesting little village, which is becoming a popular place.

Tibetan Monastery:
The colourful, pleasant new Tibetan Monastery has carpet-making operation. Vashisht:
Vashisht is picturesque little place, clinging to the steep hillside about three km out of Manali. On foot the distance is a bit shorter since you can follows paths up the hillside, where cars have to wind up the road.

Day 3: Manali to Chandratal Lake
ManaliThe lake is situated in between the Baralacha-la. The beautiful lake.

Day 4 : Chandratal Lake to Keylong

Keylong is the main town in the Lahaul and Spiti region; there are a number of interesting monasteries within easy reach of this oasis like town. The old Kharding Monastery, formerly the capital of Lahaul, overlooks Keylong, only 3.5 km away.

Day 5 : Keylong to Tabo
One of the most important gompas, not just in Spiti but in the whole of the Tibetan Buddhist world. There also's modern gompa and painitng school founded by the Dalai Lama.

Day 6 : Tabo to Sarahan
The last village in the district before entering Kinnaur, Sarahan is spectacularly located above the Sutley River.

Day 7 : Sarahan to Sangla
The main village in the Sangla Valley is 18 km from Karcham, on the Hindustan to Tibet road, and can be reached by jeep.

Day 8 : Sangla to Kullu
En-route toward Manali and the caravan will move over the Rothang Pass. The fertile Kullu Valley rises northward from Mandi at 760 metres to the Rahtang Pass at 3978 metres, the gateway to Lahoul and Spiti. In the south the valley is little more than narrow, precipitous gorge, with the Beas River sometimes a sheer 300 metres below the narrow road.

Day 9 : Kullu to Dharamsala
Following the Chinese invasion of Tibet, it was to Dharamsala that the Dalai Lama and his follower fled, and this hill station is now best known as the seat Tibet's government in exile and the temporary home of His Holiness. Travelers can join the meditation course at Dalai Lama meditation centre.

Day 10 : Dharamsala to Delhi
Move back to Delhi by train from Pathankot, after the local sightseeing of Dharamsala.
